Michelin stars: Jan Hartwig is Germany’s new three-star chef – Panorama

Only in autumn did he set up his own restaurant “Jan” in Munich, and now Hartwig has made it straight into the highest category. About Germany’s new top restaurants and the most prominent losers.

When the Michelin stars are awarded, the chefs are not in direct competition with each other, but are each recognized for outstanding achievements in the kitchen; in this respect there are no winners or losers in the classic sense. And yet this year’s gala of the German edition of the influential gastronomy guide on Tuesday had a clear winner: the city of Munich, which collected seven new stars there. There is a newly awarded three-star restaurant on the Isar as well as a new two- and two new one-star restaurants; there is also another two-star restaurant on Lake Tegernsee, which many Munich gourmets have long considered. Even for a prosperous city, such a shower of stars is a remarkable result.
