Update from May 20th, 8:40 p.m.: As the German Weather Service announced on Monday afternoon, there is a significant risk of severe weather, especially in northern and eastern Bavaria, from Tuesday (May 21st). There will be severe thunderstorms in some areas from the early afternoon until Wednesday night. Hail and gusts of around 70 km/h are also possible locally. There is also a great danger from locally occurring heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter in a short period of time.

There is a significant risk of severe weather on Tuesday, with a focus on northern and eastern Bavaria. Severe thunderstorms in areas from the early afternoon until Wednesday night. Update from May 20th, 11 a.m.: The DWD has issued “advance information about severe thunderstorms” for large parts of Bavaria. Almost all districts and cities in the Free State are affected, with a few exceptions in the northeast and southwest. The advance information is valid from Tuesday, 2 p.m.

“Severe thunderstorms in areas from early Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday night. Locally small-grain hail and gusts of around 75 km/h. On Monday the situation is initially calm, as a look at the DWD warning map shows – but it will probably not stay that way again.

The DWD is already predicting thunderstorms from midday, especially in the Alps. “In connection with this, local heavy rain with amounts of around 20 l/sqm in 1 hour, hail and gusts of up to 60 km/h. “There will also be isolated thunderstorms that will be stronger and extend into the southern foreland in the evening,” according to the weather experts’ forecast. Then “heavy heavy rain” with around 30 liters per square meter is possible locally. Hail with grain sizes of up to around two centimeters and gusts of around 70 km/h cannot be ruled out either. The maximum temperatures are between 21 and 25 degrees.

Bavaria weather: temperatures are falling, showers possible

According to the DWD, Tuesday sometimes starts with sunshine. “In the meantime, heavy rain spreading from the south, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms,” is the forecast. In the direction of Allgäu the temperatures are 18 degrees, otherwise the thermometer climbs to 21 to 26 degrees locally.
