News from the Munich gastronomic scene – Munich

The timing is perfect, after all, January is celebrated every year in relevant circles as “Veganuary” to promote the animal-free, vegan diet. So it’s fitting that this Saturday The vegan butcher shop from Dresden opened its first branch in Munich. The location directly on the Viktualienmarkt is also excellent, although or precisely because the steak restaurant El Gaucho right next to it represents a decided contrast.

As far as what the vegan butcher shop offers, everything that is available on the other side of the market, in the Metzgerzeile, is also available here. “Only in green,” says Markus Dorsch, who runs the store as a franchise with his company Monaco Plantl. Which means: In the refrigerated counter you can find bratwursts, meatloaf, salami, spreadable sausages, roasts and cheese – but all of this only in the meat-free, vegan version. And of course there is also a snack, with liver cheese and ox shred roll, with white sausage, club sandwich and herring salad. A colorful mix of all kinds of meat and fish substitute products, but supplemented by a special Munich version.

“We do munification here,” says Dorsch with a grin. “I was surprised, for example, that the people of Dresden don’t know any yellow sausage. But we have it.” In general, the products that go on sale should be “as regional and local as possible”. Dorsch sees the expertise when it comes to Obazdn in Munich rather than Dresden anyway, and they certainly make just as good vegan bratwursts in Franconia as in Thuringia. The vegan butcher shop plans to expand soon; a small branch on Häberlstrasse is about to open (The vegan butcher shop, Frauenstraße 11, opening this Saturday, then Monday to Friday 11:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., www.vegane-fleischerei.desoon also at Häberlstrasse 21).

Next Tuesday will also be about vegan nutrition Café Luitpold at the Salon Gastrosophique. The Luitpold chef will speak under the motto Enjoyment & Discourse Michael Hüsken and Thomas Andorfer from Feldbrach fruits to plant-based diets, how you can include corresponding dishes in your diet more often and what is possible, especially with winter vegetables. There is also a four-course vegetarian and vegan gourmet menu – after all, truffles are also vegan (Salon Gastrosophique in Café Luitpold, Brienner Straße, Tuesday, January 23rd, 7-10 p.m., menu: 79 euros, www.café-luitpold.de).
