Every year, around two and a half thousand people are reported missing to the Munich police. Mostly it’s teenagers who have run away from home or seniors who can’t find their way home; occasionally there are sick people who urgently need medication. As a rule, the police track down these people very quickly, it often takes less than a week and rarely longer than a month.
It is only in exceptional cases that the officials ask for the public’s help and go public with their search. As in the case of 15-year-old twins Silvana and Nadezhda Krasteva, who have apparently been hiding very well since they ran away from home at the end of November. Or with 39-year-old Vanessa Huber from Unterhaching, who disappeared without a trace at the beginning of November after a weekend of shopping.
The interest of the population is naturally high in such public investigations, especially when the police officers can also be observed at work, such as during the search measures in the Perlacher Forest and Fasanengarten, the plots of land adjacent to Huber’s place of residence. And when the disappearance seems so puzzling and inexplicable that a violent crime must be assumed, rumors naturally flourish (SZ Plus). In the meantime, the police have checked the immediate surroundings, the closer environment of Vanessa Huber; she has also reviewed the notices that have been received. So far everything without result. Therefore, the search for a short break will soon be extended. Vanessa Huber has been missing for more than six weeks, making her a special case among the two and a half thousand annual cases in Munich.
