A restaurant building has collapsed on Mallorca. Rescue workers believe there are several fatalities and dozens of injuries.

When a restaurant collapsed on Playa de Palma on At least four people died in Mallorca. There were also around 30 injured, the emergency services on the Spanish holiday island announced late on Thursday evening. The identity of the victims and whether any tourists were among them was not initially known. The accident happened at Ballermann, right on the beach. The first floor of the “Medusa Beach Club” collapsed on Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m. The cause remained unknown for the time being.

The first floor collapsed down to the basement, the newspaper “El País” and other media reported, citing eyewitnesses. Some victims are probably still under the rubble, it was said.

Rescue workers on duty in Mallorca

According to reports, police, fire brigade and emergency services were still at the scene of the accident at around 11 p.m. More than ten ambulances were on site.

After the start of the party season, Playa de Palma has been full of tourists again since the end of April, most of whom – unlike the visitors to the English party hotspot Magaluf west of Palma – come from Germany.
