“The childcare situation in the district of Munich is getting worse from year to year,” says Susanne Schroeder, head of daycare from the Munich-Land district association of Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo). In many places there is a lack of personnel, necessary investments and attractive training places. The shortage of skilled workers in childcare has also increased continuously in the district of Munich in recent years, as confirmed by the responsible district office. For the new kindergarten year, which begins in September, there are almost always children on the waiting lists in the facilities. “In many cases there are enough places, but they cannot be occupied because there are not enough staff available,” says Christine Spiegel from the Munich district office.
