The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a storm warning for the southern part of Lower Saxony. On Monday night there is therefore a widespread risk of black ice.
According to the DWD, black ice must be expected at night south of the Aller. Monday morning it could be slippery due to freezing rain in the entire southwest half of Lower Saxony. According to the meteorologists, there is a risk of storms especially between the Weser Uplands and the Harz Mountains. In the course of the morning it will be milder and the danger will decrease. In the other parts of Lower Saxony, too, according to the DWD, it can be slippery in places until Monday morning.
Rain falls on frozen ground
Responsible for the black ice is low “Per”, the mild Atlantic air slowly shovels northeast, said the DWD meteorologist Marco Manitta. “In this context, the temperature increases significantly, especially in the higher air layers, so that light precipitation mostly falls as rain, which then hits the frozen ground and leads to dangerous black ice,” says the meteorologist. Temperatures are expected to continue to rise on Tuesday: With clouds thickening, temperatures of three to nine degrees and rain are expected.
