Vitalik Buterin reveals 2024 roadmap for Ethereum, not much changed from 2023

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, shared a 2024 roadmap for the blockchain network. It outlines the main priorities for the future ecosystem.

These priorities include Merge (strong proof-of-stake consensus), Surge (goal of 100,000 transactions per second on Ethereum and Layer 2 networks), Scourge (mitigating risk around MEV and liquid pooling), Verge (reducing risk around MEV and liquid pooling), Check for easier blocks), Purge (simplifies the protocol), and Splurge (everything else).

inHis posts on Single-slot Finality (SSF) has been endorsed as “the simplest path to fixing the weaknesses of Ethereum’s design. [Proof of Stake] many today” and praised the progress made on L2 networks and the use of Verkle trees.

Aside from a few minor changes, the core focus of the Ethereum ecosystem remains the same from last year’s outline, with Vitalik declining to estimate a timeline for changes to the ecosystem despite the chronological order of the changes. Approximate importance
