“They must be with their parents”, Darmanin supports the mayors’ decision

Unlike the prefect of Hérault, he did not validate the two slaps before going to bed. But Gérald Darmanin validated the initiatives of mayors – Robert Ménard, Christian Estrosi in particular – to impose a curfew on minors. It must be said that he himself put it into practice between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Pointe-à-Pitre, in Guadeloupe.

“It is not normal for children, adolescents, minors to be in the street at midnight, one o’clock, two o’clock in the morning. They must be at home, they must sleep, they must go to school the next day,” explained the Minister of the Interior on Thursday evening, after a trip to Aveyron, on the plateau of newspaper of France 3 Occitanie.

“Entirely reasonable” mayors

“I am in favor of the curfew which affects minors. Minors must be at home, with their parents. And the mayors who have the competence to issue orders, in fact, like the State, to prevent these minors from being outside, particularly those under 13 […], I support them. I support them and the prefects of the Republic will support them,” he continued.

Gérald Darmanin believes that “obviously the administrative court, if seized, must be able to see that there is no excess of power”. But he has no concerns on this point because “the mayors who do it are completely reasonable people”.
