Danger of severe weather in Bavaria: DWD warns of thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain in some regions – Bavaria

The German Weather Service (DWD) expects an increased risk of severe weather for the south on Monday. From the early afternoon hours into the evening, meteorologists are predicting an increasing number of thunderstorms for parts of Bavaria, some of which could be severe.

They move from the edge of the Alps eastwards across the foothills of the Alps. The weather situation primarily affects Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Swabia. Individual thunderstorms are also likely in the rest of the Free State and in eastern Upper Swabia.

According to the weather service, there can be gusts of between 70 and 85 kilometers per hour and occasionally severe squalls. Within a short period of time, rainfall amounts of between 25 and 40 liters per square meter could fall in Upper and Lower Bavaria, around 20 liters in Upper Swabia and around 30 liters locally in the Allgäu.

In addition to heavy rain, hail with a grain diameter of two to three centimeters can fall locally. According to the DWD, the risk of severe weather decreases again in the evening hours. On Tuesday, forecasts show mainly light rain with temperatures of a maximum of 12 to 19 degrees.
