The immigration law before the CMP, slow decline of the Charente and the Bleues at the top of the hand

Did you miss the news this morning? We have put together a summary to help you see things more clearly.

The immigration bill will continue its particularly winding journey this Monday. A joint committee bringing together deputies and senators must decide the fate of the text: bury it or reach a compromise version normally subject to a vote in both chambers on Tuesday. After the surprise adoption of a rejection motion on December 11, the government decided to entrust this body with the task of trying to reach a text that would satisfy both LR and the majority. Made up of seven deputies and seven full senators, and chaired by the president of the Assembly’s law committee, Sacha Houlié (Renaissance), this CMP must meet behind closed doors from 5 p.m. at the Palais Bourbon. Until then, the executive is working to finalize a compromise. But on Sunday evening, this objective was not yet achieved. “At this stage, we cannot speak of an agreement,” declared the president of LR Éric Ciotti, after a meeting at Matignon with Élisabeth Borne.

The situation will begin to improve in Charente. The peak of the flood reached 6.09 meters on Sunday shortly after 7 p.m., according to Vigicrues. The water level has therefore not reached the 6.18 m measured in 2021, nor the historic flood of December 23, 1982, when the Charente rose to 6.84 m in Saintes. The weather forecasts for the coming days are favorable for the recession, but this promises to be slow, centimeter by centimeter, the slope of the Charente being very slight in this sector. The reflux should therefore last until Christmas. In the meantime, Charente-Maritime still remains on orange alert for flooding this Monday.

After 2003 and 2017, the French women’s handball team has another great year under its belt. The Blues indeed became world champions again on Sunday in Denmark. Olivier Krumbholz’s players managed to bring down the Norwegian benchmark in the final (31-28). This feat was notably marked by the “exceptional and unexpected” performances of young center half Léna Grandveau (20 years old) and replacement goalkeeper Hatadou Sako.
