The Earth Uprisings mobilize against Lafarge and “the world of concrete”

They promise a twenty actions throughout France, notably in Nantes, Bordeaux, Marseille, Tours, Limoges or Paris. Collective Earth Uprisings announce five days of mobilization, starting this Saturday, against the Lafarge-Holcim group and “the world of concrete”. The radical environmentalist collective, supported by more than a dozen associations, accuses the Franco-Swiss manufacturer of construction materials of actively participating in the “artificialization of land”, the “extension of quarries” and “pollution air and water” through its cement plants and concrete plants.

“Public demonstrations, painted messages, intrusions, sit-ins, blockades or occupations” are announced this weekend. Lafarge production sites will be directly targeted, such as those in Péronnas (Ain) and Lormont (Gironde). “The reign of Lafarge-Holcim and other concrete conglomerates is no longer inevitable. Their abuses must stop so that the intoxication of this world stops. Current governments must finally stop covering them up. Other ways of building and inhabiting the world are possible,” claims Les Soulèves de la Terre.

One year after the sabotage of Bouc-Bel-Air

The date chosen for these mobilizations is not a coincidence: it marks the first anniversary of the action of the same collective against the Bouc-Bel-Air cement factory in Marseille, during which nearly 200 people entered the factory, causing significant and costly damage. This sabotage action resulted in the indictment of two executives of the Earth Uprisings for damage to an organized gang and criminal association.

A procedure to dissolve the collective was launched by the Minister of the Interior following the violent demonstration against the megabasins of Saint-Soline (Deux-Sèvres) on March 25. This dissolution process was finally canceled by the Council of State on November 9.
