Abandoned – that’s how the brother of one of the victims of the Hanau attack felt. The focus of his criticism is the behavior of the officers immediately after the fact.

The brother of a man murdered in the attack in Hanau has heavily criticized the work of the authorities in the investigative committee of the Hessian state parliament.

The police were completely overwhelmed on the night of the crime, with their “annoyed, anxious and sometimes even aggressive behavior” the officers made the situation for the relatives even worse, said Cetin Gültekin.

Serious allegations

“There has to be a plan how to deal with the local people in such a situation.” There was no contact person, no information, let alone words of comfort. Only after four days did the relatives find out the whereabouts of the corpse, this long duration was “unforgivable”.

In the attack in Hanau on February 19, 2020, the 43-year-old German Tobias R. murdered nine people for racist reasons. According to investigators, he then killed his mother and took his own life.
