Choose the location of your gym

The first step in the home gym is to find the perfect location to do it.

When choosing the location of your gym, it is important to take into account different criteria. The type of equipment you want to install is decisive: you must have sufficient space to train safely and to move around at your ease. It is also a good idea to avoid overheated spaces!

It is rare to have a room to dedicate to the development of a sports hall. Rare… but not impossible!

If you have a veranda, you can set up your gym there: this will allow you to exercise while enjoying the view and a pleasant light.

The garage is a frequent option. However, it should not be too dark or too humid! If you do not have a garage – or if its configuration does not lend itself to the development of a sports hall – you will have to consider investing in another room:

  • Office ;
  • Guest room ;
  • Game room ;
  • Laundry room;
  • Salon.

Count at least 2 meters to be able to train comfortably on a mat, and up to 5 meters for a weight machine.

Don’t neglect the ground

Before you definitively decide on the location of your gym, consider looking into the issue of the floor. To limit the risk of injury, it is important to make sure your floor is perfectly level.

In addition, parquet may be suitable for activities such as yoga. If you opt for equipment such as a treadmill, on the other hand, it could be seriously damaged!

If you live in an apartment, it is also a good idea to ensure that the floor is well insulated, otherwise you could cause significant inconvenience to your neighbors.

In terms of comfort and insulation, it is recommended to opt for a flexible floor. If rugs are a solution, you may prefer carpeting.

Think about storage

The practice of a sport involves equipment, which varies radically depending on your activity.

While a yoga mat is easy to fit into a closet, some equipment is bulkier. Make sure you have adequate storage space, especially if you have set up your sports area in a living room.

Opt for a bright and airy space

During your workout, it is important to be able to benefit from an appropriate atmosphere. Ideally, your gym room should therefore have windows that allow you to both ventilate and take advantage of natural light.

The ideal exposure depends on your activity.

Bright light is recommended for activities such as cycling, running or weight training. In contrast, a softer light is recommended for activities such as tai chi or yoga.

If you alternate between practices, opt for modular lighting: equip the windows with curtains and rely on lights equipped with dimmers.

Skillfully choose the colors of the room

The choice of colors is not trivial, because they directly impact our state of mind. Warm colors are very energizing, while cool colors are calming. To enjoy an atmosphere conducive to sports, it is advisable to opt for a dynamic color such as red.

Green is a good option – because it is both fresh and invigorating. Choose vibrant shades such as turquoise green, apple green or cactus green.

Show your imagination

Whether installing equipment or storing equipment, do not hesitate to think outside the box by exploiting all the possibilities. The smartest? The beam or, even better, the frame!

In this vast space under slopes, we used the cathedral ceiling to install a mini sports hall for children: they can let off steam in a resolutely decorative and atypical space! Here is a smart and hot solution that you can easily adapt to a gym for adults.

Open space

A feeling of space and openness will make your workout more enjoyable. Depending on the configuration of your interior, you can choose a radical solution and drop a partition to replace it with a canopy.

Xl Mirrors

The simplest and least restrictive idea is to bet on a classic: the XXL mirror. Besides its ability to visually enlarge the room and boost the brightness, the mirror is of particular interest in the gym, since it allows you to check your posture.

Do not neglect the decor!

Anecdotal, the decoration of the gym? Certainly not ! First of all, it is more motivating to go to exercise in a pleasant space. And above all, your gym is an integral part of your interior: it is therefore wise to put it in tune!

Shelfie Trend

In this room combining an office area and a sports area, we adopted one of the trends of the moment: the shelfie spirit. A contraction of “selfie” and “shelf”, this concept aims to create pretty compositions on the shelves, worthy of being exhibited on the networks. Here is a pleasant and trendy space for training!
