S-Bahn Munich: Karlsfelder visits all end stops with a 9-euro ticket – Dachau

Check out the entire S-Bahn network – that’s what Franz Trinkl from Karlsfeld has dreamed of for a long time. The nine-euro ticket was the last incentive to finally make his dream come true. The ambitious goal: by Wednesday, August 31, Trinkl, who is also SPD faction leader in the Karlsfeld municipal council, wants to get off at least once at all S-Bahn terminus stations.

Mr. Trinkl, you want to use the nine-euro ticket to visit all 16 end stations of the eight S-Bahn lines in the MVV network. Have you done it yet?

Franz Trinkl: No, not yet (laughs). But I’ve only had the nine-euro ticket since July. Usually I planned a whole day to travel a S-Bahn line and then got off at the end stations. Now I’m only missing the S7 in the direction of Kreuzstraße and Wolfratshausen, but I’ll do that this week.

How do you come up with such an idea?

It was an old dream of mine to travel the entire S-Bahn network – also to find new destinations. And the nine-euro ticket spurred me on to finally do it. Also, I haven’t worked for two years and I have time. Next I want to explore the tram network in Munich. Because while riding the S-Bahn I noticed that there are many things in my area that I don’t even know yet.

Where was it the nicest?

In the Five Lakes Region, it’s a dream come true when you get off the S-Bahn in Herrsching or Starnberg and see the lakes straight away. I was also surprised by the S2 terminus in Erding, I’ve never been there, but that’s a beautiful city. I got out again in Mammendorf – and there was nothing there – so I drove straight home.

“A beautiful city”: Franz Trinkl also discovered Erding for himself during his S-Bahn project.

And how often has your S-Bahn canceled or been late?

Not at all for me, there were no long waiting times either. But I tended to drive outside of rush hour.

The extension of the nine-euro ticket is currently being discussed. What do you make of it?

I would really like it, the ticket brought a number of people onto the S-Bahn who hadn’t ridden it in ages. A couple once sat across from me, the woman said that the two of them had probably not taken the S-Bahn for more than ten years. Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing says that the money for the ticket is missing. But there is also money for subsidies for diesel and company cars. Nine euros is probably very cheap for the performance. But for 49 euros per month you could easily travel by train.
