VfL Bochum – Fortuna Düsseldorf 0:3 (0:1)

In the first leg of the relegation, the third-to-last team in the Bundesliga VfL Bochum lost 0:3 (0:1) against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the third-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga. Statistically, the Bundesliga team often wins in this relegation duel. However, there was no class difference visible from the start.

In the 13th minute, Fortuna got a corner. Christos Tzolis shot it straight at goal and hit the front post. The rebounding ball hit the thigh of Bochum’s Philipp Hofmann and ended up in the net. Just three minutes after Fortuna took the lead, a Bochum corner led to a header opportunity. The ball, headed by Bernardo Fernandes da Silva Junior, also hit the post but bounced harmlessly.

In the second half, the game tipped more and more in Düsseldorf’s favor. The guests dominated the game. In the 64th minute, they used a determined counterattack to extend their lead. Felix Klaus remained calm in front of Bochum goalkeeper Andreas Luthe and scored. After a free kick in the 72nd minute, it was Luthe who could only parry the well-shot ball and Yannik Engelhardt who then used the rebound to make it 3-0 for Fortuna.

Fortuna remained comfortably in the lead and now has a promising starting position. Next Monday, the two teams will meet in Dusseldorf for the return match.
