Retirement: Boomers didn’t live above, they lived below – Economy

Have the baby boomers saved too little for retirement? That’s what Monika Schnitzer accuses her generation of doing. Peter Bofinger, born in 1954, disagrees.

The proverbial Swabian housewife must have been surprised at Monika Schnitzer’s sentences. “Somebody has to tell the truth,” said the chairwoman of the council of experts for the assessment of overall economic development in the SZ: “My generation, the baby boomers, lived beyond their means. We raised too few children and saved too little.”
