Unemployment insurance reform: “Everything for employment”

THE FIGARO EDITORIAL – The ambitious objective of a return to full employment is, of course, still distant, but at least we are on the right road.

Security, immigration, family policy, social issues, governance, public finances… Emmanuel Macron can be criticized for the tortuous path of his presidency. But we should also recognize a certain consistency in its economic strategy. Based on supply-side policy, that is to say support for activity, it has resulted in significant tax cuts for businesses – even if much remains to be done to align France on foreign standards – as well as by a significant relaxation of labor rules. In seven years, more than 1 million jobs have been created in the French economy and, at 7.5%, the unemployment rate has almost fallen to its lowest level in forty years. The ambitious objective of a return to full employment is, of course, still distant, but at least we are on the right road.

The new unemployment insurance reform, which tightens the conditions for compensation for applicants…
