Raw milk cheese at the origin of the contamination of six children in a nursery

A mystery finally solved. Health authorities have identified the origin of the E.coli bacteria which contaminated six children last November, in a Minimes nursery in Toulouse. The recall of several cheeses made from raw milk manufactured by Route des Terroirs has therefore been initiated.

In total, 26 types of products, under various brands and forms, are mentioned on the government website “Consumer recall” warning of dangerous products in circulation. New products “are likely to be added in the coming days,” said the Ministry of Agriculture.

(main) source of contamination

An investigation identified “convergent epidemiological, microbiological and traceability elements, linking at least some of these cases of HUS [syndrome hémolytique et urémique] and Morbier cheeses produced by the Route des Terroirs company,” adds the press release.

The authorities cannot “at this stage exclude other sources of contamination”, but they ask people who have them not to consume them. On the producer’s side, the health approval of this site has been suspended and it can no longer produce until this suspension has been lifted.
