The “Central” in Lima has been voted the best restaurant in the world 2023 by an international jury. Berlin’s top chefs Tim Raue and Dylan Watson-Brawn have also made it onto the list of the best with their restaurants.

The “Central” in the Peruvian capital Lima has been voted the best restaurant in the world 2023 by international gourmet critics. In Valencia, Spain, the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” jury awarded the top title to Peruvian chefs Virgilio Martínez and Pía León. The chefs thanked their entire team for their work.

The “Central” has long been known as a gourmet paradise. Peruvian cuisine is considered one of the best in Latin America with its diverse influences between the Pacific and the Andes and numerous traditions as well as a willingness to experiment. In addition to Central, three other restaurants in Lima made the top 50: Maido at number six, Kjolle at number 28, and Mayta at number 47. However, the prices of the top restaurants are hardly affordable for the average person.

Tim Raue’s Berlin restaurant in 40th place

A German also made it into the top 50: Tim Raue ended up in 40th place with his restaurant named after him in Berlin-Kreuzberg. He was honored in 2022 – with 37th place.

The list, which does not list 50 but 100 restaurants, as the name suggests, is published in the British “Restaurant Magazine”. The “Ernst” in Berlin-Wedding with chef Dylan Watson-Brawn from Canada is in 55th place.

Since 2002, more than 1000 international gastronomy experts have chosen the best restaurants in the world every year.
