Paulaner am Nockherberg in Munich: beer garden in the beer garden – Munich

When they hear the keyword Nockherberg, most people think of Derblecken, which opens the strong beer season in an extremely effective manner and with the highest TV ratings in Bavaria. The large beer garden in front of the event hall is also well known in the city. But very few people know that the great fire of November 1999 spared what is left of the original beer cellar, which is now a listed building, namely the historic Salettl along the Hochstrasse.

The two landlords of the Paulaner am Nockherberg, Christian Schottenhamel and Florian Lechner, invited to the official presentation of their new venue on Tuesday evening. Because the Salettl, which used to serve as a bowling alley, can now also be used for company celebrations, family celebrations and weddings after extensive renovation and a few additional extensions. An area separated from the beer garden was created, a room with an adjoining outdoor area, with its own small kitchen, charcoal grills and open cooking stations that can be used in many ways. In a way, the Salettl becomes a beer garden within a beer garden.

Incidentally, the bowling alley is long gone, but the Salettl is still called that, it will now serve as an “event location” in the future. When Schottenhamel and Lechner took over the Paulaner am Nockherberg, they actually wanted to use the long space for something else. It was planned to house a show bakery there. That would have fitted well with the concept, which also includes an in-house brewery that brews four of its own beers. At times, Julius Brantner’s bakery, which was very popular at the moment, was also interested. But then it turned out that the rooms were too small to accommodate the production on the desired scale.

So now party instead of bread and pretzels. On Tuesday, the two hosts invited primarily professional organizers such as Alex Wolfrum (formerly the Open Air Cinema on Königsplatz) and potential customers such as Wolfgang Fischer from the retail association City Partner. The music system was presented by DJ Miko – whether one can also book it remained uncertain. Because actually he works in his main job as one of three chefs at the Nockherberg.
