“Our voice has as much weight as that of a billionaire”, recalls Emma Fourreau, of the Young Insoumis

Poverty, equality between men and women, climate… At 22, Emma Fourreau is overflowing with fervor and above all with ideas. To put them into practice, the young woman, originally from Caen, left the ranks of associations to engage in politics. Its candidate since the 2017 presidential election is Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “He is the only one today who makes the link between social justice and environmental justice”, believes the co-host of the Young Insoumis, “who wants to do ecology for the working classes who will be the first impacted by climate deregulation “.

Alongside her comrades, she defends all the values ​​linked to human dignity, namely “to eat properly, to stay, to heat oneself while respecting the limits of the planet”. What is the first measure she wants to see happen if her candidate is elected? “Get all men, women and children off the streets”.

For a “Sixth Republic”

If the French vote rebelliously on April 10 and 24, the student in political science and environmental law is preparing to enter the era of the Sixth Republic, “with the consultation of the population to democratize the institutions and involve the people in the decisions”.

To convince these fellow citizens of this project, Emma Fourreau does not only go door to door. She coordinates the operation of the People’s Union Caravans: six machines that travel through working-class neighborhoods across France to encourage people “to go and vote and if possible for our program”.

“Today’s youth are very committed”

They were in the streets to defend the climate, women’s rights or to oppose racism. “They” are young people. A committed youth in which Emma Fourreau firmly believes. The LFI activist understands their disgust for past governments, but wants them to also translate their commitments into the ballot box. “Our voice carries as much weight as that of a billionaire. The rich will always go to vote, the elderly too, so young people must not desert this election, ”she recalls.
