Neo-Nazis “celebrate” Thanksgiving – Weil comes to counter-demo | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

A broad alliance has called for protests against a meeting of right-wing extremists at a “Heimat” (previously NPD) farm in Eschede. Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) will also be there on Saturday.

The reason for the meeting of right-wing extremists in the Celle district is a so-called Thanksgiving festival. A large civil society alliance is therefore calling for protests, said retired Protestant pastor and long-time political activist Wilfried Manneke on behalf of the “South Heath Network against Right-Wing Extremism”. Neo-Nazis have been meeting on the farm for more than 20 years for events such as “solstice celebrations” and “harvest festivals”. Four years ago, the NPD bought the farm from party activist Joachim Nahtz. The court serves to maintain contacts in the North German neo-Nazi scene, plan appointments and prepare actions. The alleged traditional celebrations are “anything but harmless,” said Manneke.

Pastor: The overwhelming majority rejects right-wing extremist ideas

In addition to Prime Minister Weil, who will also speak on site, Escheder Mayor Heinrich Lange (independent), Celle Superintendent Andrea Burgk-Lempart and Dirk Garvels from the DGB Celle district association are expected. According to the network, the protest alliance includes trade unionists, church people, members of various parties and initiatives against right-wing extremism, including the “Grandmas Against the Right”. “We represent a wide range of society at our demos. It is a clear sign that the vast majority of our society unequivocally rejects right-wing extremist ideas,” said Manneke.
