90km – Swift rides again

Connor Swift and Rui Oliveira now collaborate at the front of the pack. The breakaway is less than four minutes ahead.

94km – Rui Oliveira efficient

Thanks to the work of Tadej Pogacar’s Portuguese teammate, the peloton regains ground, 4’10” apart.

100km – UAE Emirates comes to ride

Rui Oliveira, a teammate of Tadej Pogacar, now puts himself at the head of the peloton although the gap had increased to more than 4’30”.

105km – Only one man rides in the peloton

Conor Swift was designated to ride for Ineos Grenadiers, the gap continues to increase, to 4’30”.

110km: the breakaway regains ground

4’20”, nothing to panic about though.

114km: 45.7km/h average

The runners covered 45.7km in the first hour of the race.

115km – Decathlon-AG2R grouped at the front

The French team is at the front of the peloton, right behind Jhonatan Narvaez’s teammates. The gap is 4 minutes with the breakaway.

122 km – Calm start of stage

Good humor is present in the peloton, the day is calm for the moment.

132km – A long flat part

We will have to wait for the intermediate sprint at Valdengo, more than 60 kilometers away, to find the first reliefs of the day.

136km – No more than 4 minutes

We now control the gap in the peloton. The leaders should therefore be able to compete for stage victory.

142km – Ineos Grenadiers rolls

This is enough to do business for the UAE Emirates team: Ineos Grenadiers are running – for the moment at a moderate pace – at the head of the peloton.

144km – The gap increases

3’30” ahead for the breakaway, Andrea Piccolo is the most dangerous overall, 1’07” behind Jhonatan Narvaez.

150 km – One minute ahead

It’s over for the backpackers who wanted to leave, the blow has taken off.

152 km – Five Italians at the front

Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group-Bardiani) is still ahead, along with his teammate Martin Marcellusi. Davide Bais (Polti-Kometa), Andrea Piccolo (EF Education – Easy Post) and Christian Scaroni (Astana) are also up front.

154km – A new group comes out

Ineos Grenadiers makes a “blockade” this time and lets a group slip away, we will have to react quickly and that is what a runner from Cofidis did, who no longer had anyone at the front.

155km – Group platoon

UAE Emirates manages to bring back and the peloton is grouped again. There are almost 100 kilometers of flat land, which does not make it easy for backpackers.

157km- Filippo Ganna tries his luck

Teammate of the pink jersey Jhonatan Narvaez, Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) still tries to slip into the breakaway. UAE Emirates tries to control the peloton.

160km – Six runners at the front

We find in particular two riders from the Cofidis team and two Polti-Kometa riders. The peloton is a few meters away.

An attack from kilometer 0

Already present at the front, Filippo Fiorelli is the first to attack. The Italian wears the leader’s jersey in the points classification, he who is only third. But Jhonatan Narvaez has the pink jersey and Lilian Calmejane is already wearing the mountain jersey.

In the fictional

After setting off on a velodrome, the peloton set off for a few kilometers of parade. Now for the actual start.

Pogacar cautious at the start

“Maybe I won’t attack,” said Tadej Pogacar, who looks rather cautious given the length of the Tour of Italy. It must be said that the situation suits the Slovenian, with an opposing team which will bear the brunt of the race.

Bardet suffered from “stomach problems” this Saturday

Before the start of the 2nd stage, Romain Bardet told Eurosport that he had “stomach problems” this Saturday. “I was unable to assimilate what I ingested. It was painful. I hope it gets better,” declared the leader of the DSM-Firmenich Post NL team, who dropped 57 seconds in the case. “I’m not 100% yet, we’ll have to take it easy. The Giro has barely started.”

Real departure in a few moments

A first abandonment
