There are quite a few places in Munich where you can get close to heaven. Places where this is only temporarily the case have a special charm. And so it is not surprising that the rooftop bar on the roof of the Gasteig cultural center attracts many, especially at sundowner time.
How to proceed with the Gasteig renovation is to be decided by the city council in autumn. The largest cultural center in Europe is currently being used interimly, as the authorities say: it is used temporarily.
For a few weeks now, the gastronomy has been open at the top, which can be reached via a staircase directly from the S-Bahn exit. The hotspot for selfies with the city in the background is improvised: thick and roughly treated boards spread over several levels form the frame in which many plants grow and several bars are distributed.
The opening hours are like the influx: weather dependent. If the clouds allow it, it starts at eleven o’clock in the morning. If the outside conditions are good, it can be drunk until midnight.
The original plans for the Gasteig redevelopment, which are on hold for financial reasons, included a permanent roof restaurant, whose attractiveness Gasteig boss Max Wagner prophesied: “The city guides will have to be rewritten.” In the meantime Wagner has said goodbye. A new managing director is being sought.
