The two have demonstrated that golden touch that many Munich innkeepers often lack when trying to give the city a more modern gastronomic face. Harald Bernkopf, born in the deepest part of Lower Bavaria, and his chef Marian Schmalacker, Swabian and also experienced in a noble working atmosphere, have taken over the old and somewhat outdated inn Zum Alten Kreuz in der Au and have achieved something wondrous in the process: the small inn with the magnificent old figurehead (for which a hefty chunk of air tax is certainly due) has retained the charm of the past and only revamped it a bit with a few interior design tricks, in the best sense of the word.
