Local round: The Dino and the Organic – Munich

If it’s Veganuary, then right! Since the beginning of January there has been a new snack bar on Fraunhoferstrasse that specializes in vegan Asian food. Actually, it is Brachio Bros even a real deli, as they call delicatessens with food to take away or eat in the store in New York. And it is an offshoot of the restaurant Ciao Chang on Holzstraße, which combines Far Eastern and Bavarian cuisine. Viet-Dúc Nguyen and Daniel Wäcker opened it two years ago, and now they’ve launched as Brachio Bros. The two are named after the Brachiosaurus, “one of the largest herbivorous dinosaurs to ever colonize our world.” They are obviously thinking about growth – and so far the store is doing excellently, especially between twelve and half past three. The menu includes, for example, sandwiches and Japanese bowls with rice, celery pastrami, cucumber salad, popcorn miso caramel or creamy chocolate with chili nuts. There are numerous soft drinks, espresso, green tea and specialties such as “Sour Cherry Matcha Iced Latte”. And in the store you’ll find delicatessen in jars, Asian lifestyle magazines and books, as well as special kitchen gadgets and lovely gift items that you can’t find anywhere else (Brachio Bros, Fraunhoferstraße 17, Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., www.brachiobros.de).

But that’s not enough. Also in Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture Now not only organic food, but also vegetarian food is on the menu every day. After a year of renovation, the canteen is now open – also for guests from outside! – reopened, and a new tenant, the nutrition startup Organic Garden. There are mainly vegetarian dishes and bowls, but there is also always a dish with meat and fish as well as “free Munich tap water” (Organic Garden in the Casino of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ludwigstrasse 2, for external guests Monday to Friday 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., www.organicgarden.de).

In the big round of Munich wine fairs, which is hard to keep track of, is the Wine Munich Winter the first of the year. This time there is a focus on so-called natural wines, but above all conventionally working winemakers are represented. This time around 500 different wines can be tasted again on the Prater Island (Wine Munich Winter, Praterinsel 3-4, Saturday, January 27th, 12-7 p.m., and Sunday, January 28th, 12-6 p.m., entry at the box office 20 euros, www.webermesse.de ).
