With the schnapps, the hygiene rules on tables and walls become blurred. It’s not even 7 p.m., someone is trudging through the bar in ski pants, others are sitting at the high wooden tables in sequin dresses or with their shirts unbuttoned. An elderly French woman lifts a dripping champagne bottle from the bucket and pours it to the young Italian she has just met. Deer antlers stare into the room, alongside photos of local legends, heart stickers and a warning sign that reads: “Never drink water.” Purple and green party lights shine on the beams in the ceiling. The DJ plays the Ballermann hit “Ich schwanke noch”. Welcome to “Nikis Stadl”. An après-ski legend in Ischgl – and a notorious name in this pandemic story.
