Munich: Climate Alliance wants to block Ludwigstrasse at Brüder-Scholl-Platz – Munich

An alliance of “Parents for Future”, “Last Generation”, “Extinction Rebellion” and other climate protection organizations has called for a bicycle parade and a demonstration on Saturday afternoon to protest against the subsidies of fossil energy. The bicycle parade starts at 1 p.m. at Max-Joseph-Platz and goes to Zwilling-Scholl-Platz.

A “colorful, loud and peaceful festival” will take place there from 2 p.m., for which participants are encouraged to bring “performances, signs, chalk, speeches and games.” Afterwards, the plan is to block Ludwigstrasse from car traffic in a “peaceful and colorful” way: “We’re taking back the streets for one afternoon in the middle of Bavaria’s Autostadt,” as the organizers announced. The meeting is scheduled to last until 5 p.m.

The district administration department confirms that the demonstration was announced by the organizers for a number of participants between 50 and 100. There are some restrictions, for example the meeting may only take place on Brüder-Scholl-Platz. This means that attempting to block Ludwigstrasse would be a violation of this requirement.

The police explain that in such a case they will proceed according to the “tried and tested escalation model”: repeated loudspeaker announcements to leave the street until the demonstrators are carried away. The organizers point out that carrying someone away could cost the person being carried away around 80 euros.
