IFA 2022: LG brings LEDs into the kitchen

In the digital signage industry, LED is old hat. Even if it always offers a fascinating picture experience, as in the form of the Magnit 136″ Microled. LG is a latecomer when it comes to digital signage MicroLED solutions, but it was worth the wait. With clever detailed solutions and high energy efficiency (especially the low standby consumption of only 3W per cabinet – see invidis report) LG shows its innovative power.

The new MoodUp refrigerators with LED door panels that bring colour, ambience, dynamics and experiences into the kitchen are also particularly innovative. Consumers can choose different colors for the LED doors and also play their personal favorite music via integrated loudspeakers.

LED wall panels could also be an interesting addition to digital signage concepts. The budget in retail, corporate or hospitality projects is often insufficient to dynamically occupy large areas. Also, the considerable energy consumption does not always justify a wall-filling LED. A combination of MicroLED and LED wall panels – as shown by LG at IFA – could be an interesting combination.

Via the LG Smart Home app, users can choose from 22 colors for the upper door panels and 19 colors for the lower door panels, thus changing the appearance of the refrigerator and its kitchen environment according to personal taste. In addition to the changeable colors, LG Bluetooth speakers are integrated into the LED panels, which can be easily connected to a smartphone, tablet or notebook. Users can select songs from their music streaming apps to match their mood or the color of the cooler. Of course, the MoodUP’s LED panels can change color in sync with the music.

LG’s new fridge offers more features like colorful notifications: when the fridge’s door sensor detects that the fridge compartment is left open for too long, the top panel flashes repeatedly. If the MoodUP’s motion sensors detect that someone is approaching, both fields flash as a greeting. One feature is particularly helpful for orientation, especially for “midnight snacks”, because the freezer compartment door lights up at night, making it easier to find the refrigerator.

When the LED door panels are off, the LG fridge glows white and gray for a more traditional look in the kitchen. The chic, timeless surface harmonises with any decor and is reminiscent of the natural, subtle contrast of different colored stones.
