The Harz narrow-gauge railway is also in use. “The tank wagons are now bringing extinguishing water to the fire brigade,” said Ariane Hofmann from the city of Wernigerode. There is currently no danger for the town of Schierke.
The Harz control center has now published information about the “NINA” warning app. It says, among other things, that the area around the Brocken should be avoided. There can be a lot of smoke and this can lead to poor visibility.
