On a federal highway in northern Hesse, a car comes off the road – and collides with another car in oncoming traffic. All occupants of both vehicles die.
Large-scale operation on Sunday evening in northern Hesse: five people died in a serious traffic accident near Fritzlar in the Schwalm-Eder district. As the police announced, two cars collided head-on on the federal highway 253 on Sunday evening at around 8.30 p.m. According to the first findings of the police, those killed were five adults – four men and one woman. They were all occupants of the two vehicles and died at the scene of the accident, other vehicles were not involved in the accident. An expert should now find out the exact course of the accident. According to a police spokesman, after first impressions, excessive speed could have been a reason.
According to the police, the car with the four men between the ages of 27 and 57 was on the B253 coming from Fritzlar in the direction of Bad Wildungen. At the end of an upgraded route and in the Unthanken district of Fritzlar, the car then collided with an oncoming car in a right-hand bend, in which, according to the police, a 42-year-old woman was sitting. Both cars were therefore thrown into the ditch.
The site of the accident was cordoned off well into the night, and all five victims had to be freed from the completely destroyed wrecks by the fire brigade under erected light masts. The recovery of the wagons was completed at about 0.50 a.m. According to the police, the damage to property is around 45,000 euros.
An expert was called in by order of the Kassel public prosecutor’s office. A police spokesman reported that he had already looked at the scene of the accident. According to the information, a speed limit of 70 kilometers per hour applies at the scene of the accident.
Serious accident with four deaths in Hesse only in September
It was not until mid-September that a serious traffic accident occurred in Hesse with four deaths. At Friedberg in the Wetterau district, a car driver was traveling in the wrong direction on Autobahn 5. At high speed, there was a head-on collision with an oncoming car with four young occupants. Two of them died and the other two were seriously injured.
Two other cars were involved in the accident. Any help came too late for the 68-year-old driver of one of the two cars. The 52-year-old driver of the other car was slightly injured. The wrong-way driver also died later in a clinic.
At the beginning of May this year, two people lost their lives in an accident with a truck on Autobahn 3 at Frankfurt Airport. The truck had collided with two cars parked there on the hard shoulder and caught two people outside the vehicles. The two cars were therefore parked there because of a breakdown. A 35-year-old died at the scene of the accident, a 27-year-old was taken to a hospital, where the doctors could no longer help her.
