Fitness: “Exercise is not particularly effective for an appropriate calorie deficit”

Karsten Köhler is professor of exercise, nutrition and health at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The scientist is considered an expert on human metabolism and reveals in an interview with WELT which strategy you can use to achieve your goals, regardless of whether you want to lose fat or build muscle. The expert also explains the dangers that repeated diets pose to the metabolism. Because many people fail because of the diet paradox.

WORLD: Professor Köhler, it is generally said that if you want to lose weight, you should do sport. Is that also the key to success in your eyes?

Charcoal burner: I regularly give a talk called ‘Why exercise won’t make you lose weight, but why exercise is still good for weight management’. You have to look at basic human physiology. Relatively little weight loss can be achieved through exercise alone.
