Eight minors arrested for anti-Semitic chants in the metro

The video, filmed in line 3 of the metro in Paris, sparked a wave of indignation. In the car, in which the witness who filmed the scene with his phone is located, several people shout “Fuck the Jews and the grandmothers”, “Long live Palestine”, “we are Nazis and proud”.

Thirteen days after the images were broadcast on social networks, investigators from the railway network brigade arrested and placed eight suspects in police custody on Monday, learns 20 minutes from concordant sources, confirming information from Parisian and of BFM TV. All are minors and aged between 11 and 16. Two of them were already known to the police.

These arrests concern acts of “provocation of racial hatred”, “apology of crimes against humanity” and “racial insults”. According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, contacted by 20 minutes, no suspect is domiciled in the capital. They could be brought before the public prosecutors of Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) and Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Shocking, unacceptable, unworthy comments”

The scene was filmed in the metro on October 31, and broadcast on X (formerly Twitter). Denouncing “shocking, unacceptable, unworthy comments”, the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, reported the video to the public prosecutor’s office, who opened an investigation to “identify and prosecute the authors of comments repressed by the law”.

These arrests come the day after the “great march” against anti-Semitism, which brought together more than 182,000 people in France, including 105,000 in Paris. Nearly 1,250 anti-Semitic acts have been recorded in the country according to the authorities since the start of the war triggered by the Hamas massacres in Israel on October 7.
