After the death of top chef Heinz Winkler, the police assume a medical cause. The autopsy revealed “no indication of third-party negligence,” said a spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South on Monday. A standard death investigation procedure should be “discontinued shortly”. Winkler died on Friday at the age of 73 after a short, serious illness, it said on the Homepage of the “Residenz Heinz Winkler” in Aschau im Chiemgau (Rosenheim district): “A culinary legend passed away.”

Born in South Tyrol, Winkler had three stars for more than 20 years with interruptions. In addition to these cooking stars, Winkler also wore other awards: According to the “Residenz Heinz Winkler”, he was the first chef de cuisine to receive the Federal Cross of Merit. In 2006 he was also named “Hotelier of the Year”. A rose was also named after him.
