“Bottled Cocktail Bar” Terra: Here you can get Negroni from the bottle – Munich

A pre-bottled cocktail has two obvious advantages. First: You can deliver it. This made it a welcome opportunity to earn money during pandemic peaks for bar operators who were not allowed to serve in their own halls. Secondly, the guests of these same bar owners can consume their favorite drinks at home without investing in various liquors. So far, so 2020. Does the principle also work post-pandemic – directly in a bar?

In the “Terra” yes. The hotel bar reopened in March on Baaderstraße, near the Isartor. It is considered the first “Bottled Cocktail Bar” in Germany. To put it bluntly, this means that pre-prepared mixed drinks from bottles are served here. Lid on, ice cubes, straight into the glass, done? That might be how it went in isolation in one or the other household. If a professional bar specializes in drinks from bottles, this means that employees have more time to refine the drinks. For example, the dragon fruit daiquiri gets a cold smoke bubble. Right at the table. In the “Terra” you have to order a “Fly Pink” for the spectacle – and pay 13 euros. Predicate: instagrammable.

If you come early or have made a reservation, you can secure a seat on the comfortable row of sofas at the edge. The light is dimmed and you can have a good conversation with soft R’n’B music. The bar fills up around nine, and those who come later take a seat at the eponymous terracotta counter. The “Terra” is well frequented, even if it only recently opened. This is probably also due to the fact that the founders are no strangers to the Munich gastronomy scene. One of them, Markus Novak, opened the Transit Rooftop Bar two years ago on a container roof in the Werksviertel.

So now an American style hotel bar. It’s open from 2 p.m. and until 2 a.m. on weekends. There is also space for dancing. DJ’s spin early 2000s music here late at weekends.

The “Terra” hasn’t been around for a long time.

Would you like another drink? In addition to the pink daiquiri smoke bubble dream, the Boston Sour (12.50 euros) with vegan aquafaba foam (chickpea water), a Negroni variation that is flamed with Mezcal at the table, and of course the Negroni sbagliato “with gin and prosecco in it”. A wink to the internet included. Those who aren’t keen on flames, smoke and vegan egg substitutes can order the tried and tested: Manhattan, Old Fashioned, or just a beer (Noam Lager, 5.50 euros). Abstinents have three virgin cocktails to choose from (five to ten euros).

And yes, they taste good, these bottle mixes. In “Terra” there is perhaps no classic hotel bar atmosphere, no shaker noises and no bartender juggling, but solid cocktails at fair prices. And: good material for social media.

TerraBaaderstraße 1, 80469 Munich, opening times: Sunday to Thursday 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.
