May Day demonstrations by left-wing and left-wing radical groups in Hamburg and Berlin were largely peaceful until the evening. In Stuttgart, police broke up a rally after participants attacked police officers.

More than 10,000 people took part in left-wing and left-wing radical demonstrations on May 1st, especially in Berlin and Hamburg. The police were always on hand with a large contingent to prevent possible riots during the night. There were also the traditional trade union demonstrations on Labor Day for more social justice, where there were hardly any incidents.

In Stuttgart, a demonstration by the left-wing scene in the city center was ended, as the police announced on X. Demo participants attacked police officers with pepper spray, roof battens with screws, other striking tools, punches and kicks. The officers responded with pepper spray and batons. The emergency services finally surrounded the violent group of people. The other meeting participants then showed solidarity and harassed the police.

167 people provisionally arrested

The message continued: “Since the meeting management and the participants were completely uncooperative, the meeting was dissolved by the meeting authority.” It is not yet known how many demonstrators were injured. During the course of the demonstration, the police reportedly temporarily arrested 167 people. Criminal proceedings were initiated against them.

During searches, the police found a variety of pyrotechnic items, other masking material, fire extinguishers, smoke pots and gloves on participants. According to the police, the demonstration was “against social cuts”, was “for a society based on solidarity” and was registered by an individual.

No major incidents in Berlin

The so-called Revolutionary May 1st demonstration in Berlin passed Sonnenallee in Neukölln without any major problems. Feared confrontations with the police initially failed to materialize. Around an hour and a half after starting at the Südstern in Kreuzberg, the protest march had crossed Neukölln and was on its way back to the starting point.

A large police presence accompanied the demonstration by left-wing and left-wing radical groups, but initially saw no reason to intervene. In previous years, demonstrations often resulted in violent riots.

Largely peaceful course in Hamburg

In Hamburg this year, more than 7,000 people – significantly more than last year – followed the calls of left-wing and left-wing radical groups on May 1st in Hamburg. The police accompanied the elevators with a large contingent. According to the information, there were no major incidents. All events were largely peaceful, it was said.

As the last of a total of three demonstrations from the left and left-wing extremist spectrum, the revolutionary May 1st demonstration by the Red Organization, which the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified as violence-oriented, came to an end on Wednesday evening at the Landwehr S-Bahn station. According to police figures, 1,800 people took part at the peak. It was said that pyrotechnics were ignited in isolated cases. But there were no major incidents.
