Bayreuth: City Councilor Tasdelen recovers from racist attack – Bavaria

Three and a half weeks after a racist attack, Bayreuth City Councilor Halil Tasdelen is on the mend. “Every two days I go to the doctor for a check-up,” said the Turkish-born SPD politician on Tuesday to the German Press Agency. “I still get a little bad air through one nostril.” The 49-year-old suffered a broken nose during the attack.

According to investigators, on July 8, a man racially insulted the local politician, headbutted him and then fled. A week later, police arrested a suspect. Since then he’s been mentally better, said Tasdelen. “But I’m more careful than before the attack.” Under no circumstances did he want to be defeated. The suspect is being investigated for dangerous bodily harm, as a spokesman for the Bayreuth public prosecutor said. The spokesman did not provide any information on the man’s age. According to media reports, it is a 35-year-old.
