Bavaria: Inflation eats the schnitzel – Bavaria

The prices in Bavarian taverns are sometimes so high that you no longer know whether you are sick from the beer or from the bill. In Lower Bavaria, however, there is still at least one island of the blessed.

The horror reports from gastronomy and the brewing industry just don’t stop. A light to moderate beer rush in Munich could soon cost 18 euros, including a tip it would even be 20 euros away. In any case, the price for half a glass has already crossed the six euro mark in one or the other restaurant. The Mass Starkbier on the Nockherberg is currently being traded for 13.50 euros. You don’t know the next day whether you’re sick from the beer or the bill. Not so long ago you could put two crates of Helles, i.e. 40 bottles, in the trunk for a twenty or two beers at the folk festival.

The Munich Mercury recently startled all gourmets with a scandalous photo from the trade fair: a currywurst with fries for 18.50 euros was spotted there. Nevertheless, people stood in line – a phenomenon that can also be observed in the canteens, because with currywurst and fries on the menu, the mind fails. Vegans are also willing to give their last bucks.

But the lamentation does not end here. Inflation doesn’t stop at roast pork and Wiener Schnitzel either. Until a year ago, Schweinzi and Schnitzel (without extra kechtup and mayo) staunchly defended the 9.90 euro mark in the country. Okay, for that you probably got meat of animal welfare class 0 served on your plate, but the price was really democratic. Now, of course, one can be of the opinion that the Wiener Schnitzel in particular is not really a recipe in the narrower sense, but rather fried non-culture.

On the other hand, without the greasy rags there would probably no longer be a tavern in Bavaria, because they make up a large part of the turnover. The price for Schweinzi & Schnitzel has exceeded 15 euros in many places. A meal for two under 50 euros? Only without a starter or dessert – or in the Gasthaus Lanz deep in Lower Bavaria: the roast pork costs 7.80 euros there on Sundays. During the week, the schnitzel is served for 5.90 euros. Unfortunately, it is 194.8 kilometers from Munich to Untergriesbach, one way. A forester should say again that he feels disadvantaged.
