Apple is falling behind on the iPhone 14 after the confinement of its main production site in China

The production line seizes up, and the entire organization of Apple finds itself in difficulty as the end of the year holidays approach. The American giant has indicated that its main production site, located in Zhengzhou, “is currently operating with a significantly reduced capacity”, since the discovery of an outbreak of positive cases of Covid-19.

Shipments of the iPhone 14 Pro will be “lower than expected” after the containment of this factory.

“As we have done since the start of the pandemic, we are prioritizing the health and safety of workers in our supply chain,” the apple brand said in a statement.

Employees leaving the factory to escape confinement

Taiwan’s Foxconn, Apple’s main contractor and China’s largest private sector employer, has been facing a spike in Covid-19 cases since October in Zhengzhou, the world’s largest iPhone factory.

First confined, hundreds of employees exasperated by their living conditions fled the factory in disaster last week.

Apple relies heavily on China, where it manufactures more than 90% of its products. The country is also one of the most important markets for the brand. For the holidays, the company and experts expected strong demand for the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro Max.
