He also renounces the state parliament mandate. Sack announced this on Monday afternoon. CDU General Secretary Wolfgang Waldmüller also announced his resignation in Schwerin. In addition, he will no longer run for the parliamentary group chairmanship. With 13.3 percent, the CDU had its historically worst state election result in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Future of the state CDU open
In a personal press release, Sack stated that the election result spoke a clear language. He takes responsibility for the result. In his statement, Sack speaks of a new start in terms of personnel and the right political course for the upcoming federal election, but left it open when asked by NDR 1 Radio MV whether the CDU would like to continue to participate in the state government in the future or switch to the opposition. Sack will return to Vorpommern-Greifswald as district administrator.
