Even former Ironman champions are amazed. 120 long distances in 120 days – from the perspective of ex-Hawaii winner Anne Haug, an “insane mental challenge”. Jan Frodeno sees it similarly.

The three-time Ironman world champion and former triathlon superstar Jan Frodeno (42) classified the strain on Jonas Deichmann’s world record attempt as “unimaginably great”. The 35-year-old extreme athlete Deichmann wants one every day in Roth from May 9th Complete the long distance of 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling and 42 kilometers of running – 120 times in a row.

“It wouldn’t be easy to string together 120 good training days just to stay healthy…” Frodeno told the German Press Agency. “In addition to the incredible physical performance, in my eyes it will be a masterpiece to mentally engage in the same extreme performance 120 times in a row,” said Frodeno, who won in Roth in 2016 and set a world record that stood for a long time.

Deichmann wants to complete his new world record project in Roth. At halftime he will complete his 60th at the legendary Challenge Roth on July 7th. The cycling and running routes are identical, but for safety reasons Deichmann will not swim in the Main-Danube Canal, as he did in the race, but in Rothsee.

As he explained in an interview with the German Press Agency, he set twelve hours as his target time. He also included meal breaks.

Two-time Roth winner and former world champion Anne Haug (41) described the project as an “insane mental challenge”. “I find one day to be an extreme challenge,” she told dpa with a laugh. Maybe she would join in for a few kilometers. But in general she prefers short and quick things.
