There is great disappointment at HSV after they failed to get promoted again. Now coach Baumgart wants to lead the team back into the Bundesliga next season. The fans encourage the team.

Annoyance yes, resignation no: After finally missing out on promotion to the Bundesliga, coach wants Steffen Baumgart wants to make a new attempt with Hamburger SV next season and is already making preparations for it. You have to ask yourself: “What do we need to move up to this location in Hamburg?” said Baumgart. “We didn’t make it this year. I definitely want to attack with this club next year.”

The 0-1 loss at SC Paderborn on Friday evening makes it clear that the North Germans can no longer reach the promotion relegation place on the last matchday. For the coming season – HSV’s seventh second division season – it could help that you can now plan early, said Baumgart. He doesn’t think about giving up. He is happy every day that he gets to work for Hamburg. “This is a childhood dream of mine.”

Despite all the anger about the defeat on Friday evening, the coach was combative and aggressive. “I believe that we will come out of the situation stronger – I definitely do,” said the 52-year-old.

Baumgart was celebrated by the Paderborn fans when he returned to his old place of work and the HSV fans also didn’t whistle after the game. Instead, they sang about their club even in the hour of disappointment. “The fans are unbelievable, they are always there for us,” said defender Miro Muheim. “No matter how we play, no matter how disappointed they are, they continue to support us. That’s extremely nice to see and of course it also pushes us to attack again next season.”
