After Laure Manaudou in 2010, then Amandine Henry in 2020, a third French sportswoman has just been entitled to her Barbie doll. This is the Olympic boxing champion (in 2016 in Rio) Estelle Mossely, who revealed this on her social networks on Wednesday.
A way for the famous doll brand of the Mattel group to honor an athlete who will try to obtain a second Olympic coronation this summer during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 31-year-old boxer is one of nine women chosen for the 2024 campaign, alongside American tennis player Venus Williams, footballers Christine Sinclair (Canada) and Mary Fowler (Australia), gymnasts Alexa Moreno (Mexico) and Rebeca Andrade ( Brazil), Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini, Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda and Spanish paratriathlon athlete Susana Rodriguez.
This Barbie will not be marketed
Estelle Mossely does not hide her “pride” at being among this prestigious list of “sources of inspiration” through sport. “It’s an honor, and through this doll, I want to convey to girls that they can be whatever they want, be boxers or champions,” she explains in a press release. Above all, we must not set limits for ourselves but identify what we like and what makes us vibrate, then give ourselves the means to succeed, work, believe in it, persevere and not stop at the slightest obstacle, because there will always have it. »
As for Laure Manaudou and the former captain of the French football team Amandine Henry, this doll bearing the image of Estelle Mossely has only symbolic value. It will not be marketed, and only the tricolor boxer has a model.
