Zone of Interest: How my great-uncle tracked down Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höß

For the English bestselling author Thomas Harding, the Oscar film “The Zone Of Interest” is also personally moving. It was his great-uncle who handed camp commander Rudolf Höß over to the authorities after the end of the war. A guest post.

On Sunday, March 10th, it will be announced live on television whether the film “The Zone Of Interest” has won an Oscar. The film was directed by Jonathan Glazer and depicts the life of Rudolf Höß and his family, who lived in a villa next to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

I know something about this story.

I was the first person to interview one of the commander’s children. I was the first person to go to the camp with a member of the Höß family. It was my great-uncle who arrested him in March 1946. And I wrote the bestseller “Hanns and Rudolf” about this story, which has just been republished in Germany.
