Worker dies crushed by excavator at work

A 48-year-old man employed by a public works company died in a work accident on Friday, December 1 in Quéven, in Morbihan. The tragedy occurred within the Lorient Agglomération Izilo public transport company. An investigation into manslaughter was opened by the Lorient public prosecutor’s office.

According to West France, the heavy goods vehicle driver would have climbed into the bed of his truck “to help the excavator load”. He would have been crushed between the bucket of the machine and the dumpster of the heavy goods vehicle. Resuscitation attempts made by witnesses and then by emergency services were in vain. Gendarmerie reservist, the worker died.

Each year, between 35,000 and 40,000 work accidents are recorded in Brittany, including around thirty fatal accidents. The region is one of the most affected in France.
