Women’s Euro: the Netherlands struggle to win against Portugal

The Dutch have complicated the task, when they had done the hardest part. From the 16th minute, they were leading 2-0, thanks to goals from a corner by Damaris Egurrola (7th) and Stefanie van der Gragt (16th).

While they had control of the match, the defending champions saw the Portuguese, already trailing 0-2 before hanging Switzerland last Saturday (2-2), picking up the score. Carole Costa converted a penalty, obtained for a foul by Dominique Jansssen on Diana Silva (38th), before she equalized with a header from a corner (47th).

Still no qualified in Group C

Dominating, the Batavians relied on the talent of Daniëlle van de Donk. With a superb curling shot from 25 meters, the OL midfielder found Ines Pereira’s top corner. On the whole match, the victory is logical, but the players of Mark Parsons played to be scared.

At the end of this second day, all the teams of group C stand in three points. It will be necessary to wait for Sunday’s matches (Sweden – Portugal and Switzerland – Netherlands) to know the two qualified.
