Wirecard: Ex-CEO Markus Braun remains in custody – economy

The former Wirecard CEO has been behind bars for a year and a half – and has not been released after the most recent date of the detention test. He is charged with being part of a criminal gang.

Former Wirecard boss Markus Braun is not released even after a year and a half in custody. The 2nd criminal division of the Munich Higher Regional Court ordered the continuation of the pre-trial detention, as the court announced. The public prosecutor’s office in Munich accuses Braun and other Wirecard executives of acting like a criminal gang and of cheating banks and investors by three billion euros with the help of manipulated balance sheets.

Detention tests take place every three months. In detention cases, public prosecutors are required to conduct their investigations swiftly and, if possible, to conclude them, so that the accused do not spend an unnecessarily long time in prison without a judgment. However, in complex criminal proceedings it happens again and again that pre-trial detention takes a very long time.
