US composer Richard Sherman, known for his Disney songs, has died at the age of 95. The creator of the film music for “Mary Poppins” and “The Jungle Book” died in Beverly Hills, the Disney company announced.
He and his brother Robert, who died in 2012, wrote more than 200 songs for 27 films and around 20 television productions as the Sherman Brothers between 1960 and 1973. Together they received nine Oscar nominations, won two Oscars and three Grammys. Richard Sherman was, among other things, co-author of the song “Chim Chim Cher-ee” from the film “Mary Poppins”, which won an Oscar for best song.

The musician was a “key member” of the “inner circle of creative talent” around company founder Walt Disney, the US entertainment group said.
“We are forever grateful for the mark Richard left on the world and we extend our deepest condolences to his family,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
