Why reusable packaging doesn’t work for to-go packaging – Economy

Anyone who offers meals or drinks in plastic disposable containers “to go” must offer reusable packaging as an alternative. This innovation in the Packaging Act has been known since 2021 and the obligation to offer reusable products has been in effect for restaurateurs, supermarkets and gas stations since the beginning of 2023. What has happened to date: little to nothing. According to figures from the environmentalists at WWF, the market share of reusable take-away products has not even increased by a measly percentage point in a year.
